• Welcome

    Glad you are here

First Baptist Melbourne is a caring congregation that welcomes everyone. We want you to discover the joy that we share when we come together to worship God in spirit and in truth. If you are planning to visit on a Sunday morning, here are some hints to help you find your way around and know what to expect.

  • Visiting?

Making Disciples Here & Everywhere for the Glory of God.

On your first visit, look for our “Visitor Parking” spaces at the west and north sides of the building. If you have small children you may want to park on the east side of the building by our preschool entrance for your convenience. Friendly folks will be ready to greet you at all of our major entrances and escort you to the sanctuary for worship. They can also help you identify a small group Bible study class where you can connect with others, and escort you to that class’ meeting location.

  • Worship

Making Disciples Here & Everywhere for the Glory of God.

Worshiping our Savior together is a core value for us and is a highlight of our week! Our two morning services are identical in style and are led by our Praise Team, Worship Choir and Orchestra. Because we believe God has spoken to us through His Word, we also place great emphasis in our services on faithful Bible preaching.

  • Children

Making Disciples Here & Everywhere for the Glory of God.

First Baptist is a family church and we want to do everything we can to help your children and students connect with God and grow in their faith. We think that happens best when families worship together with their children 1st grade and up. (Don’t worry, we know kids make noise!) While parents attend adult Bible study, we have exciting classes available for children of all ages. Students in 7th-12th grade typically attend the first worship service with their families (9 AM) and meet together in our student center for Bible study during the latter worship hour (10:40 AM). Hosts are available at all the entrances to help you navigate the halls and find these various locations.

Mission Statement

“The Deacon body will serve the church by freeing the pastors for studying the word, by being purposeful in evangelism, by modeling Godly character and by fulfilling a servant leadership role.”

Deacon Qualifications:

Key Scriptures:  Acts 6:2-6 and 1 Timothy 3:8-12

Stimulate unity:  Acts 6:1

Servant Heart: Acts 6:1-3

Support the Pastors:  Acts 6:2-4

Walk with God: Full of the Spirit, Wise, Life demonstrates his walk

Man’s Character: worthy of respect, sincere, honest, manage home

1 Timothy 3:12 – “husband of only one wife”
Does not mean he must never have been divorced. The phrase means that he is a one-woman man. A one-woman man is a man devoted in his heart and mind to the woman who is his wife. He love and desires only her. He maintains sexual purity in both his thought life and his conduct.

1 Timothy 3:8 – “not indulging in much wine”

We believe that, while the Bible does not prohibit the consumption of alcohol, the statement “not indulging in much wine,” is a strong warning of the negative effects.  Since the testimony of a deacon is vital to his ministry, and since the consumption of alcoholic beverages is a potential stumbling block for others, we believe that abstinence from alcohol is appropriate for a deacon.

1 Timothy 3:8 – “not pursuing dishonest gain”

The fundamental truth is that God owns it all. Christians are simply manager of those resources that He has given.  We believe that the principle of tithing is to acknowledge God’s ownership of all we possess.  As committed Christians, we should be committed to growth in giving and to support of the Lord’s work through the local church.  Each deacon is strongly encouraged to tithe as an outward expression of his inward commitment to God.
