A demolitian team has been requested to go to Haiti the week of April 24 to May 1, 2010. This would need to be a self-sufficient team who would carry in their accommodations (tent/sleeping bag) and food (think MRE's, beef jerky, trail mix, etc.). Tools would be provided on-site. The team would be staying at the work site, either a church or home, and it would be a safe place. Team members need to be physically fit and able to work outside in the hot sun. Teams will consist of 1 team leader (Disaster Relief), 5 muscle (swing sledge hammer, remove debris), 1 chaplan, 1 EMT.
The costs associated with the trip would include things like passport, shots/medication (check with local health department), airfare, in-country expenses, and airport porters.
Update on 3/23: Approximate costs are about $700-800 dollars to go.
There is a very good informational "Before You Go" video available at http://www.vimeo.com/album/185337. This informative volunteer guide is about 6.5 minutes long.
