    Family matters...why?

The family is the basic building block of our societal existence.

God reveals Himself through "family terms."

This is how you should pray;  “our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name,”
    Matthew 6:9 (NIV)

Not only does He show us who HE is through the family, but also who WE are …

14because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."
16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.
17Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory
    Romans 8:14-17 (NIV)

…and who we are to become.

14As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
    15But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
16for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
17Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.
    1 Peter 1:14-17 (NIV)

The church is meant to be seen as a family.

14  Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that,
15  if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
    1 Timothy 3:14-15 (NIV)

He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect.
(If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?)
    1 Timothy 3:4-5

34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
    John 13:34-35 (NIV)
